Manchester United have a lot of work to do to finish in the top four places as far as this season’s Premier League is concerned after their latest game in the competition ended in a disappointing 2-2 draw at Aston Villa. Manchester United were on their way to a comfortable win until hosts Villa scored twice in the last fourteen (14) minutes to secure a well deserved point.
The Red Devils were not able to call on star player Cristiano Ronaldo for the Villa game due to injury. Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading goalscorer at the club with eight goals and three assist in 14 league games on the Premier League stage. He has 14 goals and three assists in 21 Manchester United games in all competitions this season. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't recover on time from the muscle injury that forced him to miss the Villa game on Monday in the FA Cup third round. Without Ronaldo, Manchester United were able to progress into the next round thanks to the first half strike from Scott McTominay. The Scotland international scored the only goal of the game to give his team a 1-0 home win over Villa and passage into the fourth round.
For the second game in five days for the two aforementioned teams, visitors Manchester United were handed an early lead in the league match thanks to the strike from Bruno Fernandes which was fumbled into the net by the Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez. The sixth minute strike from Fernandes separated the two teams at the break.
Fernandes completed his brace when he edged Manchester United ahead midway into the second half but his strikes were not enough to give his team victory after goals from Jacob Ramsey in the 77th minute and substitute Philippe Coutinho in the 81st minute rescued a point for the hosts.
