StoryJurgen Klopp warns Daniel Sturridge

Jurgen Klopp has given out a warning to striker Daniel Sturridge that he should not take his place in the starting line-up for granted.

The forward has faced a lot of injury troubles in the last two years. He was not close to fitness when Klopp came to the club a few months ago. The German appeared to be unhappy with Sturridge going back to the sidelines over what he saw as minor injuries. Despite the relationship between the pair not being at its best, Sturridge has found game time in the last few weeks.

He clearly appears to be the number-one forward at Liverpool at least until the end of the campaign. Sturridge has rewarded the faith of the manager by scoring three goals in his last six appearances. His goals to game ratio is only expected to improve as he gets more game time. Klopp will see the return of five goals in just seven league starts as a healthy tally. However, he has urged the striker not to take his starting position for granted largely because the club have a number of options in this position. Even though Divock Origi has not been much of a goal scorer, he has been picked up for some important matches nonetheless.

“I have no doubt about the quality of Daniel ¬Sturridge. But how can he be absolutely 100 per cent and in his best shape after all his long breaks from training and matches? It’s not about the name. It’s only about what is best for the next game. I have to make decisions now and I don’t think about what happened before. How could I?It is the best ¬situation you can have. I don’t think of it as a challenge between the players,” said the German manager about the status of Sturridge.
