Copa del Rey semi final match turned out to be eventful because Cristiano Ronaldo was hit with a lighter when he was leaving the football field at half-time along with Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos. The incident took place in a match between the Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid which was held on 11th of February, 2014.
After Ronaldo was hurt, he fell down and Sergio Ramos recoiled because he was shocked at what had happened. The ground staff helped Ronaldo off the field after the incident occurred. Spectators were probably angry because Ronaldo scored two penalties in the first half of the match and thus Real Madrid was able to take a lead in the semi-final match.
Due to this incident, Atletico Madrid has to pay up a fine of about 490 dollars (600 euro). The decision regarding the fine was taken by the Spanish Football Federation which was roped in to investigate the incident. The amount of the fine would have been reduced if Atletico would have identified the spectator who threw the lighter at Ronaldo.
The Spanish Football Federation did not take serious action against Atletico Madrid because according to the federation this incident was an isolated one because a lighter is not forbidden from the football arenas and the throw fortunately did not become the source of any serious injury. Ronaldo was able to play again during the second half of the game. However, just 15 minutes before the game was going to end, Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted by another player.
It also seems that Atletico Madrid is not planning to challenge the decision regarding the fine that is taken by the Spanish Football Federation.
Real Madrid won the Copa del Rey semi final match and will be competing against Barcelona in the finals of the Copa del Rey.
