Juventus’ summer signing Joao Cancelo has hailed the winning mentality of Portuguese compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo after he decided to make the move to Turin. The 33-year-old ended his nine-year association with Real Madrid earlier this week after the Bianconeri finalised a deal worth £99m with the European champions.
Since then, there has been plenty of excitement around the club regarding the Portuguese and speaking in a news conference, Cancelo has revealed his delight of working alongside Ronaldo at the Serie A champions, he said:"It's an enormous pleasure for me and all footballers to play with a great champion like Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm sure he's going to raise the overall quality of the team and he'll help us to keep winning. He has a winning mentality and has won a lot in his career. At the same time, Juventus have claimed seven straight Scudetto titles, so I hope they will make a perfect match."
Juventus have been dominated in the Serie A having won the last seven league titles but this has not quite translated into trophies at the European stage. The Bianconeri have managed to reach the Champions League final in two of the past four seasons but they have not been able to jump the final hurdle against Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Nevertheless, there should be a fresh sense of optimism now that Ronaldo has joined the club and the hierarchy will be hoping that his vast European experience can guide them to Champions League glory. The Bianconeri previously won the elite competition back in 1996 where they required a penalty shoot-out to beat Ajax. The scores were level at 1-1 after added extra-time following goals from Jari Litmanen and Fabrizio Ravanelli but Juventus eventually came up triumphs after beating converting their penalties in a 4-2 shoot-out win.
