Juventus manager Max Allegri has admitted that he is pleased with the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo during his maiden game for the Rossoneri. The Portuguese superstar joined the Turin giants from Real Madrid earlier in the summer but he took no part during their pre-season tour after being offered an extended break for his World Cup exploits.
In the season opener against Chievo, Ronaldo was pretty active in the frontline where he managed to have eight shots on goal but unfortunately, he could not find the scoresheet with goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino in fine form. Speaking after the game, Allegri spoke positively regarding the Portuguese’s showing and believes the attacker should only improve in the coming games.
He said: “Ronaldo held out well physically, has only been training with us for seven days and did really well. It’s a pity he wasn’t able to score a goal. It depends on the characteristics of the players near him. Ronaldo had several shots on target today, Sorrentino made several saves, there were also some good movements that were not rewarded by the midfielders. Those are movements that must be read from the back with the ball provided in the right spot. I was most impressed that Ronaldo settled in to the team, he was very happy in the dressing room and had his chances.”
Juventus found themselves in a heap after trailing 2-1 with just 15 minutes on the clock. However, an own goal from Mattia Bani and a dramatic injury-time winner from Federico Bernardeschi ensured that the Bianconeri won their opening game of the campaign. Aside from Ronaldo, there were also debuts for Emre Can and Joao Cancelo in the club’s shirt whilst the game also witnessed the second coming of Leonardo Bonucci after returning from AC Milan earlier in the summer. Juventus face Lazio in their next league outing at home and hopefully, the game can bring about Ronaldo’s maiden goal for the club.
