Iker Casillas has once again refused to speak about the incidents that led to his downfall at Real Madrid in the last few years.
The Spanish international went from being untouchable in his position as the captain of the team to joining FC Porto after being left with no other choice. The odds of him leaving the Spanish giants after 25 years seemed simply unthinkable.
Casillas was once rated as one of the top goalkeepers in the world, but his form significantly deteriorated when he was dropped by Jose Mourinho. Several reasons have been put forth for this incident, but Casillas says that he will keep his silence since the Portuguese manager has also done the same. At one point you could have got good odds using a netbet aktionscode on Casillas and Mourinho coming to blows, but they both seem to have mellowed since.
The 34-year-old cried during his last press conference as a Real Madrid player. There have been suggestions that the club did not give him a fitting sending-off. Comparisons were made with the send-off given to Barcelona midfielder Xavi. Casillas has enjoyed a similar long career at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he says that he will not bad mouth the club in anyway since it has provided him with everything in life. The goalkeeper also spoke about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he has termed as being temperamental. Ronaldo and Casillas played with each other for a period of six years.
"Cristiano is someone who is straight-up, he can be temperamental but he’s done well for himself. I have known him for six years and we’ve established a good relationship. Whenever there was an issue we’d deal with it and it got resolved.Lots of people say I should have [spoke out], but I preferred to stay quiet. I don't regret anything. We [Mourinho and I] said what we had to say to each other face-to-face. I don't think he will ever talk on the matter because I didn't," said Casillas, who played at Madrid for more than two decades.
