Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says that he at least has 10 more years of football left in him.
The forward recently signed a new contract with the Spanish club which would see him remain at the club until the summer of 2021. It is a major sign of commitment from Madrid given that Ronaldo is 31 years old. The Portuguese has been showing the first signs of his decline after having a very poor start,by his impeccable standards, to the league campaign. He has ‘only’ managed to come up with seven goals in 12 appearances for Madrid.
In the past, Ronaldo has averaged more than a goal per game but he has struggled with injuries at the start of the season. Rumours about his departure were to crop up, but it was always thought that the Portuguese superstar would consider a move to the MLS or the Chinese league for a couple of years for a major payday.
Still, it is not like he is on peanuts at Madrid, as the club have agreed to pay his existing £360,000 per week contract. His release clause will also stay at the same €1 billion, thus making him almost impossible for other clubs to sign him unless Madrid decide to sell him.
“I want to stay here and finish here. It is not my last contract, I want to keep going until I’m 41 but now the most important thing is this special moment that makes me happy and my family, too. I’m at the best club in the world. Everyone knows what my thoughts are. I want to continue being the best. I want to wear this shirt with pride. I’m sure I’m going to contribute the same over the next five years as I have in my time here, scoring goals and winning titles,” said Ronaldo.
